Our journey from Slovakia to the Canary Islands by campervan was the ultimate road trip. We kicked things off by driving through Austria and crossing northern Italy all the way down to Civitavecchia, a port city near Rome, where we caught a ferry to Barcelona.
Once in Spain, the adventure truly began. We made a stop in Castellón to experience the thrill of skydiving, and then continued south to meet friends in Malaga. No road trip heading towards the Canaries is complete without a stop in Tarifa — the wind capital of Europe and a true kitesurfing mecca.
Finally, we reached Huelva and boarded a two-day ferry that carried our van straight to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. This massive crossing was the perfect start to our plan: spending several months exploring the islands and experiencing a completely different kind of winter. And our next destination? Fuerteventura, the island of eternal spring and endless wind.
